Chicago Bears offseason quarterback trade targets: Matthew Stafford
Another team that could be trying to tear it down and rebuild is the Detroit Lions, who have a similarly consistent quarterback in Matthew Stafford. Two years younger than Ryan and getting paid significantly less, Stafford would be a fantastic option for the Bears to trade for.
Stafford has been a model of consistency over the years as well, being one of those guys to throw for 4,000 yards with his eyes closed. Year after year, it seems that no matter what injuries happen around him, Stafford is good for a strong season.
He’s tough as nails too, which fits perfectly for the Bears.
Stafford is one of the better long ball throwers in the league, which is a big reason why adding him would revolutionize the offense. The Bears want to be a running team, and they have most of the personnel to do so around David Montgomery. But, adding a quarterback who can chuck it deep would give them a totally different dimension.
Should the Lions want to strip it down and allow Stafford’s name to enter trade discussions, you have to imagine the Bears would need to part with at least one first-round pick, plus a player or two.
