The Chicago Bears should bring back Tashaun Gipson on another friendly deal
When we look at the safeties for the Chicago Bears in 2020, Tashaun Gipson outplayed Eddie Jackson. Gipson was signed to a one-year, prove-it deal. Prove it is exactly what Gipson was able to do this season.
Gipson is not a spring chicken, but I want to see him in a new system. The Chicago Bears announced that Chuck Pagano will be retiring and honestly, I am glad to see him go. Pagano is a great coach, but he just could not seem to put these guys in the right scheme to make the plays we were used to seeing when Vic Fangio was running things.
Gipson is the ideal type of safety to pair with the ball-hawking, Eddie Jackson. That same Jackson who did not have a single interception in 2020. Yikes. Gipson however, came away with two interceptions and paired them with 66 combined tackles (48 solos and 18 assists).
Gipson did not jump off the stat sheet, but he was very consistent for the Chicago Bears in 2020. He did not let up very many big plays. Over the course of the 16-game schedule, he allowed three touchdowns on 44 targets. What this means is that he should be able to be brought back on a fairly cheap deal once again. With the salary cap situation, the Chicago Bears could likely bring Gipson back on a two-year, $4, or $5 million dollar deal.
