Chicago Bears free agent replacements for Allen Robinson: T.Y. Hilton

This might not be the first player you think of when potentially replacing Robinson, but T.Y. Hilton is an option. His days could be up with the Indianapolis Colts if they do not decide to re-sign him, and Hilton will be looking for a new team for the first time in his NFL career.

Over the past couple of seasons, many had wondered whether or not Hilton was on a significant decline. It was a fair question. However, quarterback play had been pretty poor with the uncertainty and ultimate retirement from Andrew Luck.

During Philip Rivers’ first few games, Hilton disappeared. But, as Rivers got more accustomed to Indianapolis’ offense and developed more chemistry, Hilton’s 2020 season turned around in a hurry. He became Rivers’ go-to guy down the stretch and looked almost like the Hilton of old.

Hilton didn’t catch his first touchdown of the year until Week 12 and finished with five receiving touchdowns this past season. In total, he caught 56 passes for 762 yards.

In Chicago, he would act as a decent Robinson replacement — a guy you could count on to simply catch the ball and get open. Hilton still offers decent speed, too, and isn’t quite over the hill just yet. He proved that at the tail end of his 2020 campaign.

Hilton would likely come cheaper than some of the top names in football due to the fact that he is a bit older and hasn’t put up top-20 numbers in a while, which is great for the Bears because they can’t afford a top free-agent receiver.
