Chicago Bears free agent replacements for Allen Robinson: Marvin Jones

In 2020, Marvin Jones quietly had the second-best season of his career. Finishing with 76 receptions for 978 yards and nine touchdowns, Jones was the go-to guy for Matthew Stafford this past season with Kenny Golladay struggling to stay healthy.

One thing Jones would have in Chicago which would make him feel at home is a deep threat wide receiver like Golladay — Darnell Mooney. The two have complemented each other well for a few years now. Jones and Mooney could be a strong one-two punch for whomever the Bears’ starting quarterback is in 2021.

The best trait Jones continues to offer is the ability to present defenses with a bigger-bodied wide receiver who can go up and strong-arm the tough catches. He’s been one of the better deep ball trackers over his career and can still do that at a high level.

Over his five-year contract in Detroit, Jones averaged $8 million dollars annually. His next contract will probably be similar to that one, as he’s not a true number one guy. In Chicago though, he and Mooney would effectively share that role. I could see both Jones and Mooney finishing with similar numbers as one another in 2021 which would give the Bears two strong options for defenses to prepare for.
