Are the Chicago Bears down to five candidates for the defensive coordinator job

As the Chicago Bears have looked to replace Chuck Pagano at defensive coordinator, there has been plenty of speculation about who that may be. So far, the team has sent their feelers out and has had multiple interviews.

Still, two weeks removed from the season, it does appear that five names are standing out from the rest. You could consider these five the finalists, and the odds are looking pretty good that one of these men will be the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator.

5. Jay Rodgers

Rodgers may be the most known and comes with the most fan support. This is a coach who goes all the way back to John Fox, as he was hired over five years ago. Rodgers has helped but build up an elite defensive line, and has gotten the best out of all of his players. Akiem Hicks bounced around before excelling, but names such as Nick Williams, Brent Urban, and Bilal Nichols hammer home his production. He also has the stamp of approval from Vic Fangio.

Still, this is someone who has not called plays before, and has worked through a lot of defensive systems. Of all of the candidates, he may be the one with the biggest mystery as to what scheme he will run. Beyond that, he may be retained as an assistant depending on the hire.
