3. James Bettcher

Rumors swirled late into the year that Bettcher was helping Chuck Pagano as a consultant. The fact that Bettcher not only has a relationship with Pagano, but also Matt Nagy seems to give him a great start on the job.

Bettcher interviewed with the team officially, and with the relationship it is easy to see the hire being made. The Chicago Bears would be sticking to the 3-4 defense with James Bettcher, while we would have more questions about the others.

Still, while he is not quite an in-house hire, he is very familiar and would not change much of what is going on already.

The issue is that Bettcher has been a DC for the Giants and Cardinals and neither ended well, although he did have highlights in Arizona. If the Bears go this route it will be because of experience and continuity.
