The Chicago Bears could splurge for Trent Williams

Should the Chicago Bears and Ryan Pace decide to let Allen Robinson walk this offseason, the team could use the $18 million dollars to put towards the left tackle position instead. As the Chicago Bears are still in a win-now mode due to the current status of the defense, Pace could use the money that Robinson wants and give it instead to Trent Williams.

Williams is up there in age but is arguably the best free-agent offensive tackle in 2021. Williams held out in 2019, claiming that Washington’s medical staff was horrendous and ignored a cancerous growth on his head. Williams was then traded to the 49ers for a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round pick.

Despite his age, Williams is still one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL. Adding him to the left side of the offensive line instantly makes the Chicago Bears line a top-10 line in the league. As the title says, these are dream replacements for Charles Leno and Bobby Massie. Replacing Leno with Williams would be exactly that. The cost is high, but it’s about time this team invests in the offensive line. The team can then add a draft pick to the mix that can start out at right tackle.

Williams had a Pro Football Focus grade of 91.9 in 2020. If you are unfamiliar, that is an elite grade. He has made the Pro Bowl in eight consecutive seasons (not counting 2019 since he did not play a snap). Although he would be expensive, I am on record for wanting to pay him $18 million-plus over the next three to four seasons.
