Sean Desai will influence the Chicago Bears’ next starting strong safety

Lastly, this particular player has not yet been identified, but whomever it is will serve an important role.

Once upon a time, Jackson had a guy next to him who was the perfect compliment at strong safety. Adrian Amos left for the rival Packers, and since then, the Bears haven’t found a similar style player.

While Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Tashaun Gipson have been serviceable, they’re not true strong safeties. Because of that, Jackson has played out of position at times. As previously mentioned, that cannot happen any longer.

This offseason, one of the priorities is going to be finding a long-term replacement at strong safety. Last year, the Bears seemed to put that position on the back burner until later on when they signed Gipson to a one-year deal as a fill-in.

Again, Gipson did a fine job and came up with some big plays in 2020. But, Chicago needs a safety that’s comfortable playing up towards the box and stuffing the run if need be. They need a player who can man the area just in front of Jackson so that No. 39 can go out and get himself some takeaways.

The Bears need to do whatever they can to ensure this player is found, and when they do, he’ll have Desai’s stamp of approval — that’s a guarantee.
