The Chicago Bears go strictly with draft compensation in this trade

There are already rumblings out there that, in order to get Stafford, a team would need to offer something along the lines of a first-rounder accompanied by either a second or third-round pick. If that ends up holding true, this would be an offer the Lions probably could not refuse.

Going back to the first and third previously, the Bears would indeed give up both in this year’s draft — plus a third-rounder in 2022.

The saving grace, here, is that Pace is able to squeeze a fourth-round pick out of Detroit for this year’s draft. Otherwise, he’d be left with a pick in the second round and then none until the fifth — sound familiar?

Within their first three picks, the Bears will have to address quarterback and offensive line. That’s two of their first three selections, so in this instance, they get the quarterback checked off their list. From there, the target would have to be offensive line with that crucial second-round pick this year.

Then, in the fourth, maybe the Bears could add either a wide receiver or cornerback depending on how the offseason shakes out for a guy like Allen Robinson.
