Should the Chicago Bears consider Corey Davis in free agency?

After being a top-five pick in the NFL draft, his career has not gone the way Corey Davis had imagined. However, in his fourth NFL season, Davis was able to put up a career-high 984 yards. Still, the Tennessee Titans very well may be moving on after a rocky three years. So, as he hits free agency, who will be his suitors?

Should the Chicago Bears look to sign Corey Davis in free agency, or should they let someone else take the risk.

Sign

Of wide receivers with 70 targets, he finished fourth in yards created per route run. Per PFF, only Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, and AJ Brown were more efficient per route run. He was just ahead of Stefon Diggs, Calvin Ridley, Will Fuller, and DeAndre Hopkins.

Any time you are in the top eight and those are the other seven names, something went right.

Davis was a MAC athlete with a few injuries in his first couple of years. Last year he had 93 more yards than on his career-high on 20 fewer targets and the same number of catches.

His efficiency has improved and we may be seeing his ceiling reached after a few years to adjust to the NFL. Davis will be 26 next year and is a young, up and coming free agent who could help replace Allen Robinson.

Pass

Last year was great, but we cannot dismiss the other three seasons. Davis was up and down and truly needed an alpha like AJ Brown to open up the offense for him. When Davis was looked at as the secondary threat, he found immense success and became a shot player.

However, as the leader of the pack, he struggled with elite corners. That is what makes an Allen Robinson so special. He opens up space for others and does not need anyone else to create. Davis is arguably the perfect complement wide receiver. However, the Bears have a nice splash compliment in Darnell Mooney. Mooney will not take coverages away from Davis and vice versa.

While Corey Davis is a great piece to any team, adding him to the Chicago Bears is taking him out of his comfort zone.

He is worth giving an offer to, but the Bears cannot think that he can replace Allen Robinson.
