Chicago Bears: Most compelling trade package for top available quarterbacks
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears must shell out plenty of draft capital to have a shot at Deshaun Watson
Remember, we’re talking about the most compelling offers for trade suitors. If we’re looking at Deshaun Watson, much must be considered. First of all, the Texans have recently said they will stand their ground and have no intent on trading Watson.
So, what’s a buyer to do? They have to go all-in if they want any chance at changing Houston’s mind. For the Bears, that offer may look a little something like this.
It’s straight forward. The Bears end up dealing their next three first-round picks along with cornerback Kyle Fuller in exchange for Watson.
From the Bears’ perspective, this is as good of a quarterback the franchise has ever had and it’s not close. Watson immediately becomes to most talented guy this team has ever had under center. That, alone, is near priceless.
Watson gives Chicago the best chance at competing for a Super Bowl out of any veteran quarterbacks they could trade for. Not only that, but he’d give them that chance for years to come, so bidding farewell to a trio of first-rounders is nothing. By the time they have another one in 2024, Chicago could have already won a Super Bowl with Watson.
Fuller puts this deal over the top. Any other team could offer a few firsts, but if Houston is getting a top-5 or top-10 corner, depending on who’s debating, then it gives the Bears the edge. Plus, Fuller’s $20 million cap hit in 2021 comes off the Bears’ books.
