Jameis Winston could take over for Drew Brees unless the Chicago Bears step in

Contract Situation: Unrestricted Free Agent

Another option I am on the record of wanting in Chicago is Jameis Winston. He is not my top choice from a talent standpoint but signing Winston this offseason means you are not giving up any draft capital in trades because he is an unrestricted free agent.

Winston signed a one-year deal with the Saints to backup Drew Brees. However, when Brees went down with an injury, the team turned to Taysom Hill instead of Winston. Could this have put a sour taste in Winston’s mouth? What if Drew Brees ultimately decides to come back in 2021 too? Most believe he will retire in the next week or two, but should that change, Winston might want to move on to a team he could potentially start for.

Winston has plenty of talent and would definitely inject some fuel to the Chicago Bears offense. The problem is his recklessness with the football would also put plenty of pressure on the defense. Look at what adding Tom Brady at the age of 43 did to the Bucs. They are about to play in the Super Bowl versus the Chiefs on Sunday. Had they stuck with Winston that would not be the case.

If the Chicago Bears can sign Winston, I would still look at drafting a quarterback with one of the Bears’ first three picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Predicted landing spot: New Orleans Saints or Chicago Bears
