The Chicago Bears send Khalil Mack to the Browns for a first-rounder and more

The first risky trade the Chicago Bears must make is sending one of the best pass rushers in the NFL to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns already have a superb pass rusher in Myles Garrett. However, could you imagine having Mack and Garrett on the same defensive line? This is not the same as having Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn on the same line. Garrett is not Quinn and the Cleveland Browns can use some help rushing the passer.

The Browns offense took a significant step in 2020, but the defense only sacked the quarterback 38 times last season. This put them in the middle of the pack. With the team not losing many key free agents in 2021, the Browns could easily take on Khalil Mack’s salary while also giving up draft capital this season. The addition of Mack will bring the Browns closer to a Super Bowl run than a couple of draft picks in the first and fourth round this year.

The Chicago Bears defense will take a hit, but honestly, acquiring an additional first-round pick is the only way the team will start getting closer to having enough ammunition to land Deshaun Watson in a trade. As great as Mack is, landing Watson is the first step at improving this team. Watson is 25 and a top-five quarterback in the league, whereas Mack is 30 and will only have a few top-five seasons left in his career.

Here’s the thing. Making a trade like this does not guarantee Deshaun Watson. The Bears could be sending Khalil Mack to the Browns for what could amount to nothing but draft picks.
