3 Reasons the Chicago Bears need to trade for Carson Wentz
By Joseph Herff
The Bears have never had a franchise quarterback in their history. However this offseason, there seems to be a good amount of franchise quarterbacks on the trade block from Deshaun Watson to Matt Ryan. The one the Bears need to get is Carson Wentz.
After last season, it was quite obvious the Bears were going to move on from Mitchell Trubisky. You can point fingers at him or Matt Nagy for the bad offensive play, but we are stuck with Nagy unfortunately, so we need to do what we can do to win with him.
Before the 2020 season, Nagy got a quarterback to compete with Trubisky and that was Nick Foles. Trubisky won the job before losing it to Foles in the middle of a Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Trubisky then won the job back and eventually saved Nagy and Ryan Pace’s jobs. Even saving their jobs wasn’t enough for Trubisky to come back.
So, the Bears turn to the offseason in which they are apparently all over the quarterback trade market. They have been rumored to countless quarterbacks such as Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota, Gardner Minshew, Jameis Winston, and Wentz. The best two on that list are Carr and Wentz and with Carr reportedly not available for trade, the Bears need to go after Wentz.
But, why Wentz? After a horrible 2020 season, the Bears should be full-on avoiding him and never even considering him. The Eagles even drafted a quarterback in the second round in 2020 and Wentz eventually got benched for him. Why should the Bears “bailout” the Eagles? Here’s why.
