Chicago Bears free agent offensive tackle targets: Trent Williams

Last year was a tumultuous one for All-Pro tackle Trent Williams. A former member of the Washington Football Team, Williams wanted out and eventually got his wish. The San Francisco 49ers acquired Williams from Washington for a fourth and fifth-round pick, which seemed like a steal at the time.

However, Williams now enters free agency and the Niners will have to compete to re-sign him after not getting an extension done last year when initially landing him.

Williams will be 33 years old when the 2021 season begins, but he’s also made eight Pro Bowls in a row. He’s been a model of consistency at the tackle position for a decade now, and the Bears would be extremely fortunate to somehow land him.

Even at this age, Williams will still command a hefty contract. So, Chicago would have to have a plan in place not only for their quarterback position but also for Allen Robinson. Could they afford all three? It’s a possibility. If the Bears go quarterback in the draft and not via trade, Williams is a possibility. But, he’ll be costly.

light. Trending. Bears trade for Carson Wentz in one of these deals

No matter who they turn to, and whether it’s free agency or the draft, the Bears must add a tackle. That’s a foregone conclusion. Should they get their hands on one of these guys, things will be looking up for this unit in 2021.
