After a Super Bowl loss, the Kansas City Chiefs are going to have to look into the mirror and make roster changes. Sammy Watkins is a free agent this offseason and could be a player who sees greener pastures elsewhere. Could the Chicago Bears be a team that pries him way in free agency?

Projected Contract for Sammy Watkins in NFL free agency

It is going to be interesting to see how the free agency market values Sammy Watkins. On one end, PFF and Spotrac each have him projected to see $10 million-per-year, on a 2-3 year deal. However, Over the Cap valued his 2020 play at closer to $3 million.

Is he going to see the high-end money that his name deserves, or will a year of injuries and questionable play lead to a reduced market?

Chicago Bears should sign Sammy Watkins in free agency

The Chicago Bears are going to need to add to this receiver room. We saw that Watkins can be a complementary wide receiver in a successful offense. We also know that Ryan Pace is a fan of giving former first-round picks a second chance with his team. With Watkins is the added playoff reputation

When Watkins is healthy, he is a consistent producer for about 500 yards per season. He also demands respect due to his deep receiving game, and his existence on the field opens up more of the offense.

For the right price, there are worse options than Sammy Watkins.

Chicago Bears should pass on Sammy Watkins

Over the past three seasons, Watkins has missed 14 games combined. While Watkins has been hitting 500 yards, there is no upside of him getting back to 1,000 yards, which he hit in 2015.

The Chicago Bears had a chance to sign Watkins three-years ago and chose Robinson. No matter the difference in money that was the right choice, and would remain the right choice for this team. Watkins is a bit of a one-trick pony who does not add in all areas of the field.

The biggest thing for Watkins will come down to his contract. It is easy to say that the Chicago Bears could offer him $5 million per year due to his health, and the fact that he is so boom-bust. If Watkins were to sign for that deal, not many fans would complain.  However, anywhere close to $10 million like some sites have suggested seems insane for the production and capability of Sammy Watkins.
