Chicago Bears: Top-5 quarterback options with Carson Wentz now in Indy
By Braden Fogal
Outbidding the Saints for Jameis Winston is an option for the Chicago Bears
One of the most interesting names in free agency will be the 27-year-old Jameis Winston. Many wonder if Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints were, in fact, grooming Winston behind Drew Brees during his final year, but at the same time, the team opted to start Taysom Hill during Brees’ absence to injury in 2020-21.
Chicago should sign Jameis Winston with hopes that he learned better pocket presence during his time with Brees and the Saints. Decision-making has always been another concern for Winston when he threw 30 interceptions with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. If he could focus on the 5,109 yards and 33 touchdowns he passed for that season then the Bears might have an answer here.
Extreme caution would come with this signing and the front office should prepare to have a backup option just in case. This is something Chicago fans have grown accustomed to over the years, but hey…the Bears might get their first 4,000-yard passer in one season having a guy like Winston.
Signing Winston would be like going to the bathroom in a Porta-Potty. It’s not something anyone wants to do and it’s gross to think about, but it at least gets the job done in a way.
