The Chicago Bears have to avoid a washed-up veteran

Looking at the list of potential free-agent quarterbacks the Bears could add, it’s enough to make one vomit.

First off, the Bears have options like grandpa Joe Flacco, journeyman Tyrod Taylor and long-time Cincinnati Bengal Andy Dalton. However, one more option may end up hitting the market if things don’t go right in re-negotiating his contract.

Ben Roethlisberger has said he wants to come back, but is that the right move for the Steelers?

He was very good for a long time, but Roethlisberger looked washed last season. Would he be an upgrade over Foles? Maybe — by just a little. But, would he give the Bears enough to compete for a title? Absolutely not.

We don’t even have to talk about details here when it comes to Flacco, Dalton or Taylor. Even Jacoby Brissett has been mentioned as an option by some fans — and that’s also a hard “no.”

None of the free-agent quarterbacks are good enough options for the Bears unless we’re talking about miraculously landing Dak Prescott — and that’s not happening.

So, what’s the point, here?

Pace has to do absolutely everything he can to move up and get a Justin Fields, Zach Wilson or Trey Lance. Even Mac Jones would be a fine pick. But, going the veteran route or any other route than ending up with one of those four is simply a false move and a lost season.
