Chicago Bears: 4 trades involving Allen Robinson, Sam Darnold
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears should ask for more in a deal involving Robinson and Darnold
Let’s say the Jets were willing to talk to the Bears about a swap, and would also consider throwing in a decent draft pick. In that case, maybe the Bears entertain an offer.
Let’s look at the facts. First of all, in Pace’s eyes, the Bears would be filling their biggest need with a 23-year-old former, first-round pick who really hasn’t been put in the correct situation since being drafted. There is reason to believe he could still become something better than what he’s shown so far.
The other fact is, if Pace tags Robinson, he won’t play. We’ve heard it via multiple reports over the past couple of weeks. Robinson is unhappy and unlikely to play under the franchise tag.
In this deal, the Bears not only fill a need at quarterback but net a third-round pick in the process. If Pace wanted to, he could still opt to draft a quarterback with a pick in those top three rounds.
It might not be in the first or second round, but if Pace was feeling bold, he could opt for someone like Jamie Newman, Kellen Mond or Davis Mills in the third round. Having that extra third-rounder would immediately become a huge advantage. Four picks in the first three rounds would give Chicago the ability to replace Robinson while also filling other big needs.
