Chicago Bears Draft Targets: Dazz Newsome | North Carolina

The Bears drafted Anthony Miller to be the future slot receiver for them and Riley Ridley to potentially take that spot if Miller developed into an outside wide receiver. Here we are now and Miller has gotten worse and still a diva on the field while Ridley is in Nagy’s doghouse. Third time’s the charm though as Dazz Newsome could be the Bears’ slot they’ve been looking for.

Playing alongside fellow prospect Dyami Brown, it was hard for Newsome to get looks. Lucky for him, he had a star quarterback in Sam Howell. Newsome saw a productive 2019 season in which he caught 72 passes for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns. He then caught 54 passes for 684 yards and six touchdowns in 2020.

Newsome operated from the slot while at North Carolina and projects to be just that in the NFL. Newsome displays great route-running and great hands. He additionally creates a lot of separation and is great at getting yards after the catch. Newsome is what the Bears wanted in Miller.

As stated, Newsome would come in and compete with Ridley likely for the starting slot job after Miller should rightfully be cut. With Miller’s on-the-field antics and his issues with running routes correctly, he should be cut to save space.
