Kellen Mond is another recent riser up draft boards following his impressive game at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Chris Simms went even as far to say that he is the fourth-best quarterback in the NFL Draft above Trey Lance and Justin Fields. He has a point though that Mond is massively underrated.
Simms brings up the point that Mond threw for 19 touchdowns and only three interceptions last year on an SEC schedule, and he’s right that’s very impressive. The other thing with Mond is he virtually improved every season as a three-year starter for Texas A&M. He never lit up the stat sheet, but he showed plenty of traits to be a great developmental quarterback.
Mond shows good athletic ability with a promising arm. He is streaky though as a quarterback. He will go through runs that he looks nearly unstoppable and then make multiple throws in a row that make you shake your head. His mechanics need some work as well, but he could develop into a great quarterback with the right pieces in place.
Mond would be a nice player to have sit behind a veteran like Tyrod Taylor or Alex Smith to learn the ropes of being an NFL starter. Having him sit and potentially develop could get the Bears a steal at quarterback in the fourth round of the NFL draft.
