Blueprint to fix the Chicago Bears after Andy Dalton disaster
If the offseason does not go according to plan, Chicago Bears should blow it up
It for some reason the Chicago Bears cannot land a top quarterback in a trade (still possible, even if it does not feel that way), or land a quarterback worth taking a risk on in one of the first three rounds, then I think it is time to just blow it all up.
This means the Chicago Bears should trade the likes of Akiem Hicks (might happen anyway), Kyle Fuller, Eddie Jackson, Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, Eddie Goldman, Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller and more. Send off whoever you can for draft capital in 2022.
The only other option is to retain the defense as close to what you can and hope that Andy Dalton finds lightning in a bottle in 2021. Do we think that will win this team a Super Bowl? Honestly, I do not. Therefore, blowing it up is probably the next best choice. At least this way, if the team can land some quality draft picks, then they can start rebuilding through the draft in 2022 and beyond.
Take a look at what Miami is doing. This is something similar the Chicago Bears should do. While we are at it, they should blow up the front office too. This starts with Ted Phillips, all the way down to Ryan Pace and scouts. Matt Nagy can have the rest of this season to prove himself with what the team has left. If they cannot finish 9-7 with a weak roster, then he too can go.
Seems like a tough spot for Nagy, but should we care? The answer here is no. Until this franchise stops living in the past and gets out of the way things were done in the 1980s, then the franchise will continue to find itself in the bottom half to the middle of the league. The mentality of a top defense with a strong running game and quarterback who manages the game is no longer the recipe for success. You must, I repeat must find a top-quality quarterback in this league.
