Adding Greg Newsome to the mix instantly fixes the Chicago Bears defense

At 6’1″ and 190 pounds, Greg Newsome has some solid size. His coverage skills would be a great replacement to Kyle Fuller, as his instincts at Northwestern earned him an interception and nine pass deflections his junior season.

Newsome has had some first-round speculation, but many analysts predict he could drop to the second or third round strictly due to teams needing other positions. If he’s there at No. 52, the Chicago Bears could find a sleeper at cornerback in the second round two years in a row.

Greg Newsome hasn’t been a ball hawk in college with only one interception for Northwestern in three seasons, but he has been a very solid cover corner. He was third in the Big 10 last season with seven passes defended and fifth in 2019 with nine passes defended.

The Chicago Bears will need to find someone like Newsome to bring in now that Kyle Fuller is no longer with the team. The hope here is that Kyle Fuller is traded today rather than just released, but that might be difficult. It will be interesting if the Bears turn to the draft or free agency to fill Fuller’s role.
