Asante Samuel, Jr is a familiar name to the Chicago Bears

Asante Samuel, Jr has already met with the Chicago Bears virtually and could potentially be a Day 2 or 3 selection for the team.

He was the highest-graded coverage defender in October of 2020 according to Pro Football Focus. He’s incredibly athletic and light on his feet, allowing him to be quite effective in man coverage. He’s a smaller prospect, but could very well compete for the open cornerback spot on day one.

Samuel, Jr., is son of former NFL star Asante Samuel Sr., who also played defensive back in the NFL. During his tenure, Samuel, Sr. played for the Patriots, Falcons and Eagles. His best years came in his final year in New England and during his tenure in Philadelphia where he was voted to four consecutive Pro Bowls and was selected as an All-Pro once.

Could Samuel, Jr. follow in his father’s footsteps? He clearly has the pedigre and during his three years at Florida State, he came away with four interceptions (three in 2020 alone). He led the ACC in 2019 with 14 passes defended and is 11th overall in career passess defended (since 2005) in the ACC with 29.
