Chicago Bears: Mid-free agency full seven-round 2021 mock draft
The Chicago Bears ending out the draft info
If you remember, Matthew Stafford wasn’t known as a dual-threat quarterback at Georgia. However, when he took off to run as a pro, he was deceptively fast. That is Franks. Franks will navigate the pocket as Ben Rothlisberger has before, uncorking a deep shot on time and target.
So why would a quarterback like this fall to the Chicago Bears? The new generation of quarterbacks is not over 6’5″ anymore. They are highly explosive, small, big-armed quarterbacks that intentionally extend plays while reading half the field before deciding to cut it loose or take off and gain yards.
Injuries also cost Franks what could have been a potential first-round draft selection. Kyle Trask took over in Florida due to Franks’ injury, while he went to a less passing attack in Arkansas.
Some undrafted, late-round players to keep an eye on include Ian book (quarterback) Norte Dame. Book only tossed 15 touchdowns last season, but he didn’t cave when he lost two of his weapons to the NFL draft in Chase Claypool and Cole Kmet.
It shouldn’t matter in college how many weapons you lose as a quarterback. You either face adversity or drown like Kyle Trask did in his bowl game or Jordan Love did in 2019. Winners find a way. Cole Van Lanen (offensive tackle) from Wisconsin could be someone on the Chicago Bears’ radar.
Wisconsin is known for producing solid offensive linemen. In contrast, they haven’t had the same game-changers as they have in the past. Wisconsin linemen are still coached the correct way.
Darren Hall (defensive back) from San Diego State has rumored to have met with the Chicago Bears twice. Ryan Pace has drafted versatile defensive backs like Hall in the past. Hall has played both safety and cornerback for San Diego State. Hall had 3.5 sacks while adding six interceptions during his 34 games played in college. Hall is a late bloomer that impressed when he has his time to shine during the Senior Bowl week.
