Chicago Bears Target: Jamie Newman | Wake Forest

On the contrary to Davis Mills, Jamie Newman has been slowly dropping from mock drafts. Newman after showing a lot of promise in 2019 chose to transfer to Georgia to finish out his college career. Before he even took a snap, he opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID. Many regarded him as a potential first-round candidate if he took the next step, but now, he is down on boards.

Strengths:

Much like Mond, Newman shows all the positive traits you want in a quarterback in the NFL. He has the ideal size, arm strength, athleticism, and speed to be a high-end quarterback in the NFL. Newman showed abilities to escape the pocket well when he didn’t have any options to throw to. He is a tough runner as well.

Weaknesses:

As a common trait among late-round quarterbacks, Newman struggles with accuracy and decision-making. He tends to lock onto his first target and force throws often that doesn’t need to happen. He doesn’t show many signs of an ability to read and process the whole field either. His pocket awareness is questionable as well.

Chicago Bears’ Fit:

Another developmental quarterback, Newman will benefit greatly from sitting behind a veteran quarterback and learning the ins and outs of becoming an NFL quarterback. He likely will excel in a spread offense, which the Bears tend to run a lot of with plenty of quick throws. Newman likely will be found in the fifth round as well.
