Chicago Bears: A top-ranked quarterback falls in three-round mock draft
The Chicago Bears trade up for a new left tackle in Liam Eichenberg
The Chicago Bears need, and I repeat, need to find a new offensive tackle in this draft. The 2021 NFL Draft is full of top-graded prospects at the position and this is good news for the Bears. In most drafts, Liam Eichenberg would be a lock as a first-rounder. Instead, he could see himself drafted in the late part of the first, or in the top part of the second.
Well, Ryan Pace would not be able to remain patient after getting lucky to land Mac Jones in the first round. Now, he makes a trade to move up and select Eichenberg. The trade sent the Chicago Bears’ second-round pick (52) and a third-round pick (84) to the New York Giants for their second-round pick (42) and a fourth-round pick (117).
Moving up 10 spots to land a talent like Liam Eichenberg is worth the fallback from the third into the fourth round. Notre Dame has produced some of the best offensive line talents in the NFL. From, Zach Martin, to Quenton Nelson, to Brian McGlinchey, the Irish have seen plenty of offensive line talent succeed. Liam Eichenberg is just the next in a great line of former prospects turned into household names.
Eichenberg brings his large frame from the college ranks and enters the NFL. He stands 6’6″ and weighs 302 pounds. He is a big, strong offensive tackle who should be a plug-and-play option on either side of the offensive line. Some might think he can only handle the right side, but I disagree. He uses sound technique and great form. Speed rushers are where he needs to improve and could struggle at times in the passing game, but he will dominate as a run blocker.
In the end, the Chicago Bears would be lucky to land such a talent.
