The Chicago Bears might be cursed after what took place in 2017. Ryan Pace made the mistake of selecting Mitch Trubisky over both Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, and he traded up to do so. That selection really hurts given both of their talents.

The surprising selection was the Mahomes selection. The Kansas City Chiefs traded up from 27th overall to 10th overall giving up their third-round pick and a 2018 first-round pick as well. The Chiefs just had a Pro Bowl season from Alex Smith in which he led the Chiefs to back-to-back double-digit win seasons.

So, why? In hindsight, the Chiefs looked like geniuses, but at that moment, they looked silly. Smith followed up his 2016 season with an even better 2017 season, throwing for 4,000 yards and 26 touchdowns on his way to his second-straight Pro Bowl. After the season ended, Matt Nagy left for the Chicago Bears and the Chiefs traded away Smith to the Washington Football Team as the NFL was ready to see Patrick Mahomes released.

The rest is history. The Chiefs then won a Super Bowl with Mahomes just two seasons later and made the Super Bowl this past season. Clearly, the Chiefs did something right while Nagy was there learning from Andy Reid. It seems that Nagy wants to do something similar here in Chicago.
