Chicago Bears: Is Matt Nagy trying to recreate the 2017 Chiefs?
By Joseph Herff
The Chicago Bears can choose between two quarterbacks to be their Mahomes
There are two quarterbacks who greatly fit the Mahomes profile and those two are Zach Wilson and Trey Lance. It is likely that Wilson is out of the range of the Bears and could go as soon as fourth overall, but I imagine the Bears are keeping their eyes on him.
With Wilson, he truly reminds you of Mahomes. His style of play is very much like backyard football with his crazy throws and constantly airing the football out. He likes to run around the pocket and make wild throws that make your jaw drop. He fits the profile well.
On the other hand, Lance is very much more of a pro-style quarterback, but his physical traits are much like Mahomes. Lance is an unbelievable athlete with great arm strength and arguably the nicest deep ball of anybody in the class. He has a ton of question marks surrounding him, but he could develop nicely behind Dalton.
Both of these quarterbacks could sit behind Dalton for a season and learn Nagy’s offense. Thus, Dalton would serve his role as the bridge quarterback allowing for Lance or Wilson (or even maybe Justin Fields) to take the reigns in 2022. It sure seems this way to me. The Bears just need to pray that Lance or Wilson falls into their range for a trade-up.
