Rumors exist that Russell Wilson is still available, even for the Chicago Bears

It all started with Adam Schefter. Schefter made comments on ESPN about a week ago that threw Chicago Bears fans into a tizzy. It was not that he announced some big free-agent deal. He did not talk about some trade or contract extension regarding Allen Robinson either. Instead, he fueled the fire that has given plenty of Bears fans both hope and despair.

This is not where it ended though. ESPN’s Jeff Darlington recently appeared on the Ryen Russillo podcast to discuss the quarterback shifts within the NFL. While discussing the Russell Wilson situation, Darlington had this to say:

"“I don’t fully believe Wilson plays in Seattle in 2021. People want to blame Seattle. People want to blame Chicago. I also sort of lean to the side that we’re not putting enough attention on Russell Wilson either here. This is the guy who basically came out and said, I’ll go to these four teams. He sort of started all this. People get on Pace or Nagy in Chicago. They didn’t say we want Russell Wilson. Wilson put the Bears on his list. A lot of people have been coming after Chicago and, I still believe that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. When you start naming other teams that you’re willing to play for, you have one foot out the door. Very rarely in the NFL, as recently as Tom Brady, when someone puts one foot out the door, they don’t usually come back in.”"

Now, add in the fact that everything has been radio silent in Seattle. The Seahawks could put all of this to rest by coming out and making the statement that Russell Wilson is not going to be traded. Outside of the reports that Pete Carroll put a stop to the agreed trade between John Schneider and Ryan Pace, nothing has really been said directly or through the local media.

Even before the Adam Schefter comments, Mike Garafolo also said that he’s not ruling out a possible trade.

As a Chicago Bears fan and blogger, I am once again excited about the idea that Wilson could still end up in a Bears uniform. Then I realize, I need to keep myself grounded as this cannot actually be real, right? These insiders are just speculating based on everything that has transpired, right? Many quarterbacks and coaches find themselves not getting along, and many find ways to work through things.

There’s just no way these guys can be right about Russell Wilson being traded close to the draft or even as a post-June 1 trade, right? Well, if we look at some other signs, we should be able to read the tea leaves.
