The Chicago Bears must find out if Mitchell Schwartz is willing to play in 2021
We all know how bad the Chicago Bears need to focus on the offensive line. It was cute to bring back Germain Ifedi on a one-year deal. However, when you can upgrade the position with a player like Mitchell Schwartz, you have to look into it.
The problem right now is Schwartz might be considering retirement after dealing with back issues. However, he is only 31 years old and easily the best right tackle free agent available. If the Chicago Bears can sign Schwartz, he’d instantly take over the right tackle spot. Ifedi moves into a backup role and the offensive line instantly gets better.
What would make things even better is if the Chicago Bears were able to draft a left tackle to plugin for Charles Leno. Then, Leno himself could be cut and the money could be put to good use. With the trades that took place today between the Dolphins and 49ers, and then the Dolphins again with the Eagles, it appears that we may see a historic draft when it comes to quarterbacks being selected early.
If the Chicago Bears are out of contention on drafting one of the top-five quarterbacks, the plus side is that other top players at other positions will fall. This means one of the top offensive tackles should be there for the taking. Let’s just hope Ryan Pace doesn’t mess that up.
