Say goodbye to some of the Chicago Bears wide receivers as they draft another

Later in the draft, you have to take whom you think is the best player available. In the sixth round, the Bears yet again go wide receiver. This time, it’s Frank Darby out of Arizona State.

At first, it seemed weird projecting another slot receiver to the Bears after they took St. Brown earlier on. But, Darby is too good to pass up at this spot in the draft and, again, St. Brown could potentially swing outside.

To start with, Darby would be a backup and could potentially contribute on special teams. But, he’s a technician with his routes. That’s what makes him worthy of an NFL draft selection, first and foremost. He runs crisp, smooth routes.

Darby has above-average hands as well and has been able to win contested catches. The knock on him as a prospect is his lack of being a speed threat. With someone like Mooney already on the field, that’s fine. Darby is going to win with his routes and by getting open. That’s what he’s great at.

A pick like this would mean that, without a doubt, the Bears are moving on from Anthony Miller and probably even Riley Ridley. Bringing in a new crop of similar receivers would be admitting failure on those two picks, however, all the Bears can do from here is look forward.
