The Chicago Bears make a blockbuster trade to move up for Zach Wilson

Remember how I said the Jets were a wild card that maybe the Chicago Bears could use to land a quarterback? Well, if the Jets are not trading Sam Darnold, maybe they would be willing to move on from the second-overall pick for a plethora of picks?

We just saw the 49ers move up from 12th-overall to third-overall by sending the Dolphins a late, 2021 third-round pick, 2022 first-round pick and 2023 first-round pick. If the Chicago Bears truly believe that Zach Wilson is the answer, and the Jets are willing to move on from that pick as we saw the Dolphins do, it could be possible for the Bears to move up. The only problem here is that it will cost a fortune.

I would not condone this pick, but I know some Bears fans would want to know what it would take for the Bears to move up from 20 to second-overall. The Chicago Bears would likely have to give up their 2021 second-round pick and first-round picks for the next three years. Draft Day would be the only day the team can move four first-round picks and this is the way to do it.

We know that they were willing to part with three first-round picks in the trade offer for Russell Wilson, but maybe it makes more sense to give up four for a rookie? Yikes, I know. You are taking on a huge risk if Zach Wilson does not pan out. This is a bit different than giving up three first-round picks for a proven top-five quarterback in Russell Wilson. Personally, I am not taking the chance on Zach Wilson, but I can see why many others would.

In fact, I could not even argue against it completely other than this team needs help in plenty of other places that I would fear Zach Wilson would not live up to the Patrick Mahomes hype that many have for him. Now you are still ignoring the offensive line (taking one in the third this year is not the same as the talent levels in the second or first rounds) and other areas of need like cornerback and wide receiver.

Although I do believe a deal like this could happen (even if the chances are slim), I cannot sit here and tell you the Chicago Bears should do it. Give me the trade with the Giants or Chargers first if the Bears are indeed wanting to move up for a quarterback. We will look at other players the team could move up for instead of a quarterback next. Also be on the lookout for draft-day trades that involve the Chicago Bears moving back in the draft.

Wait, Ryan Pace can trade back in NFL drafts? Not that I expect it to happen, but it is a possibility I’d like to see.
