The Chicago Bears could sign Tyler Eifert and/or Alex Erickson

Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy need to do everything they can to make Andy Dalton comfortable in their offense. In order to help with that, the Bears’ front office should consider some former Cincinnati Bengals.

Tyler Eifert, TE

The Chicago Bears are losing Demetrius Harris in free agency so why not replace him with Tyler Eifert? It would be an insurance signing just in case Jimmy Graham does get cut to save $7 million in cap space, but also Eifert used to be one of the most talented tight ends in the entire NFL. Had it not been for a multitude of injuries, Eifert could have continued his 2015 excellence where he posted 52 receptions, 615 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Eifert played in Jacksonville last season on a one-year contract where he made $4.4 million and scored a pair of touchdowns. He has five in his previous three seasons.

Alex Erickson, WR/KR

Many of you may have never heard of Alex Erickson, but Cincinnati Bengals fans know who he is. More importantly, Dalton knows who he is, and the 6’0″, 195-pound receiver is a threat in the return game. Erickson averaged 10.1 yards on punt returns and 23.7 yards on kickoff returns last season; making him an above-average replacement for Cordarrelle Patterson if the Bears opted not to resign him.

The Bengals attempted to use him as a receiver during his five seasons with Cincinnati, but that amounted to just 93 receptions, 1,086 yards and one touchdown.

That one touchdown, however, came from Dalton back in 2017.
