After analyzing Mac Jones’ performance at Alabama’s first pro day, here I am again to share my takeaways from Mac Jones’ second pro day. This time, Jones had a couple of familiar targets to throw to– unlike his first pro day. Running back Najee Harris and wide receiver DeVonta Smith ran routes for their now former quarterback.

With a slightly closer-to-normal set of weapons in his arsenal, Mac Jones performed in front of the eyes of many as the University of Alabama held its second and final pro day yesterday. This time around, there were some bigger eyes on Mac Jones than just the Chicago Bears. However, it would be foolish to believe anything is guaranteed in the NFL Draft– right Bears fans?

My takeaways from Jones’ second time throwing the ball for all to see was skewed due to the 49ers trading up to the No. 3 pick and the fact John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan are rumored to be selecting a quarterback. It’s still foolish to think anything is guaranteed in the NFL Draft, but teams usually do not give up the draft capital the 49ers did unless the player is a quarterback or a generational-type pass rusher.

Reports have come out about how the 49ers plan to also keep Jimmy Garappolo. I am not so sure that happens, but they have made it known they plan to select a quarterback. In fact, some believe that the 49ers are likely to take Mac Jones.

It will be interesting if that happens. It would mean that Shanahan likes Jones more than at least two other quarterbacks. If Trevor Lawrence is the lock to go first overall, then Shanahan likes Jones over two of Zach Wilson, Justin Fields or Trey Lance.

My first takeaway from Mac’s second performance was this: Mac Jones is not a statue in the pocket.
