Chicago Bears: 3 Draft day trades to make with Carolina Panthers
By Ryan Heckman
The trades keep coming prior to the 2021 NFL Draft, and the Chicago Bears should consider getting in on the action.
About a week and a half ago, we saw a deal send shockwaves through the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers moved up to pick number three overall by making a move with the Miami Dolphins.
Now that the 49ers are at the third pick, the debate becomes whether they will go with Mac Jones, Trey Lance or Justin Fields.
But, what about the New York Jets? They made it abundantly clear Monday that they will go quarterback at pick two overall when they traded Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers. It’s tough to see a world where New York doesn’t select BYU quarterback Zach Wilson there.
It’s time for Ryan Pace to put the Chicago Bears back on the map.
With the Panthers trading for Darnold, their number eight overall pick becomes that much more intriguing — and maybe up for grabs, at the right price.
Chicago’s current quarterback situation is not ideal. No matter how much Pace wants us all to believe Andy Dalton is the right man for the job, fans continue to have justifiable doubts. There’s no world where Dalton takes the Bears on a magical Super Bowl run in 2021, nor a world where he’s the quarterback of their future.
It almost feels as if Pace made a lateral move for the second year in a row. Last year, we weren’t sure just how the Nick Foles trade would work out, but it ended up being mostly a waste. It didn’t matter if it was Foles or Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears’ offense sputtered in both situations.
Even if we’re not necessarily talking quarterback, the Panthers are still a team to try and trade with on Draft Day. The Bears could look at a couple of intriguing scenarios with Carolina, starting with the blatantly obvious one.
