The Chicago Bears could try to add one more valuable pick this year
Lastly, the Bears could simply try to add more draft capital via Carolina. Last season, they traded a fourth-rounder for Foles and then proceeded to trade this year’s fourth in a deal to move up and get Travis Gipson.
For some reason, Pace loves trading those fourth-rounders away. But, they’re also some very valuable picks. That fourth round is where you can potentially find a guy who could have gone somewhere in the second round, but for some reason fell. Just take Eddie Jackson as an example.
The Bears have several key needs still, even beyond quarterback. They have to add an offensive lineman, cornerback, safety and wide receiver. Without a pick in the fourth round, the Bears may only be able to find three future starters amongst those positions.
Recouping a fourth-round pick could potentially give them the ability to find another one, depending on whom they target.
Chicago could send next year’s fourth-round pick and a fifth this year in order to get back into the fourth round. If you look at a position group like the receivers this year, that might be the most likely position targeted with this pick, assuming they haven’t gotten one already.
No matter what they choose to do, Carolina still presents them with one of the better trade partners in the draft this year. Will Pace decide to pursue a deal with the Panthers?
