The Chicago Bears double down on the offensive line in the first two rounds

By understanding all of those dynamics, we can develop a better mock draft in the future. Actually, heck, let’s do a mini mock draft right now. Spontaneous Chicago Bears seven-round mock draft (using PFF mock draft simulator):

20th overall Christian Darrisaw (OT) Virginia Tech:

This draft pick worked out with the quarterbacks going early. I wanted to trade up, but with Rashod Bateman still available, I sat and waited until one of them was off the board before making a trade-up. Christian Darrisaw will slot right in at left tackle, and Charles Leno Jr will be released before we sign Darrisaw in this mock.

52nd overall Landon Dickerson (C) Alabama:

Many Chicago Bear fans love the UDFA center Sam Mustipher. I do as well. However, the only thing that was proved last season is that Cody Whitehair is a guard. We don’t exactly know what James Daniels is going to become. Mustipher found rhythm but did not exactly blow anybody out of the water.

I looked at a few trades, but none were appealing. A day one starter to batter against Mustipher in camp would do nicely. Besides, who says Landon Dickerson can’t play guard? He is 6’6″ and 325 pounds.

The Chicago Bears land a quarterback by trading up

The Chicago Bears’ first two draft picks are all about fixing the most significant problem the Chicago Bears have. You can’t ever improve a team all in one year. That leads us to the future while maintaining firepower.

65th overall Davis Mills (QB) Stanford:

It was time to get risky. This round also starts compensatory picks, so getting up high in the draft for a player was key. Drafting Davis Mills wasn’t a pick that should be ignored. A young talented quarterback to sit behind Andy Dalton and Nick Foles just in case is great. The offensive line should be ready to go. **Trade details** Jaguars received: 83, 228, and a single round five pick in 2022. Bears received: 65.

And in round Five, the San Francisco 49ers wanted to get up to 164. After looking over the board, there wasn’t anybody who stood out that I wished to draft over any other player. So instead, I took the 49ers 172nd and 180th overall selection. The 49ers took Trey Hill (OC) from Georgia, just in case you wanted to know.

172nd overall Bobby Brown III (DT) Texas A&M:

Choosing a player here was a tough spot for me. There were still too many late-day guys I would like to take and not enough to stand out. The value here was what made Bobby Brown III the pick.

180th overall Elerson Smith (EDGE) North Iowa:

Elerson Smith was likely the last value pick I was going to get from this mock draft. The Cleveland Browns offered up a trade that I will select to get a head start on my UDFA class and try and find a gem in the late-round at the skill positions. **Trade details** Browns receive 2021 204 and a 2023 seventh-rounder. Bears receive picks 211 and 257. With the extra picks, here are who I selected.

208th overall Jonathan Adams Jr (WR) Arkansas State
221st overall Whop Philyor (WR) Indiana
221st overall Darren Hall (CB) San Diego State
257th overall Matt Bushman (TE) BYU

This was a bonus mock draft I had not planned on doing, however, I will do one more before the draft starts on April 29, 2021. Do not miss it. Until then…Bear Down!
