The Chicago Bears finally draft a quarterback and trade up to select him

Here’s where things get very interesting for the Bears because they are able to trade up and get Jamie Newman in the fourth round — right around where the need for a quarterback would become urgent. If Newman was still there towards the top of the fourth round, he would not last much longer. In this instance, Chicago moves up to get him by trading with the Giants.

Bears get: Pick 116

Giants get: Pick 165, Pick 204, 2022 5th Round Pick

In total, the Bears send three picks back to New York in order to grab Newman. But, this isn’t just any mid-round quarterback. He’s not necessarily a huge project. In fact, he and Kellen Mond could end up being very valuable selections down the road for their respective teams. The mid-round quarterbacks are no slouches but have just a little bit of development to go before they’re ready to start as a pro.

It is not far-fetched to think that Newman could end up being the starter for the Bears even halfway through this upcoming season. Mid-round quarterbacks have done this before, and even recently. Think about Dak Prescott in Dallas, for example.

Newman opted out of this past season, therefore he never got to play for Georgia. But, as a member of Wake Forest and then in the Senior Bowl, he showed why he could have a future in this league. The thought of Chicago having a real dual-threat quarterback is a fun one.
