Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: Bold trades for WR, QB
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears bring in some depth to compete at EDGE
Over the years, we have seen some ridiculous talents come out of Ohio State at the edge rusher position. Just this decade, we’ve seen guys like Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa and Chase Young come into the league and completely dominate right away.
Jonathon Cooper isn’t quite to their level, but he’s someone who should have a lot more draft hype than he’s had. Currently projected as a late-round pick, the Bears would be getting an absolute steal if they were able to get Cooper in the sixth round.
Cooper is more of an EDGE in the NFL than a guy who puts his hand in the dirt, but the Bears could definitely experiment with his position. Chicago has to get more of a pass rush out of their defense, especially considering they have a guy by the name of Khalil Mack on board. The Robert Quinn signing gave us an underwhelming outcome in his first year, and hopefully, Quinn can bounce back in 2021.
Last year’s rookie Trevis Gipson has some potential but may take a little longer before making a real impact. Cooper very well could leapfrog Gipson as the third rotational rusher in this group of linebackers.
Over his time with the Buckeyes, Cooper came up with 15.0 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks while the “other” pass rusher got in on more of the action on a regular basis. Still, he’s got some great experience in big games and has some underrated speed and power to his game.
