The Chicago Bears quarterback needs have continued to plague the team. After signing Andy Dalton, all eyes look to the 2021 NFL Draft class for the potential future of the franchise.
Of course, we’ve taken looks at the potential to trade up to find that player. A potential Atlanta Falcons trade could mean the likes of Justin Fields, while our Detroit Lions’ trades have the likes of Trey Lance being a Bear. But is there another scenario that could see someone completely different be taken?
The Chicago Bears draft position may mean taking a second-round QB early
Picking at 20th overall puts the Bears in a tough spot. There are a lot of quarterback-needy teams who are also looking for a new face for their team. The Bears may miss out on the top-five quarterbacks solely because of their draft position. Do the Falcons really want to trade down 16 spots?
For Ryan Pace, this may mean an unconventional move. The team has been scouting three Day 2 quarterbacks these past few weeks: Kellen Mond, Kyle Trask, and Davis Mills. Should the Bears be stuck at 20, it could mean taking one of these three players late in the first.
This is a move of desperation, but with a situation where four quarterbacks could get taken in the top-10, the Bears may not have a choice. Later-round quarterbacks will become more valuable as a result.
In this mock draft, the Bears trade down from 20 with the Cleveland Browns. They acquire the 26th overall pick and one of the Browns’ 4th round selections at #110 in this move.
