Jalen Mayfield, Michigan

Jalen Mayfield is expected to be a first-round pick. At 20 years old, he is young and has right tackle experience in a pro-blocking scheme at Michigan. There is something to be excited about. However, if the Bears have to take him at 20th overall, they have to pass.

This one goes back to athleticism. Check out how he compares to others. That is below average in most areas aside from weight.

In fact, when you look at which players have thrived at his dimensions, they are almost all guards. Speaking of guard, that is where Mayfield will likely play, and not only because of athleticism, and size, but his length as well.

Mayfield also checks in with under 33″ arms. If he plays like a guard, and he looks a guard, and his length is of a guard, we have ourselves a guard.

Jalen Mayfield is a mauler who knows angles and can help in the run game. However, he is not the future at right tackle and would be more fit to jump into right guard next year. He has value, but at pick 20 you need a no-brainer.

He does not check nearly enough boxes to be a no-doubt top 20 pick for the Chicago Bears.
