Tashaun Gipson is still a free agent, but could he return to the Chicago Bears?

The Chicago Bears have been playing roulette at the strong safety position for a few years now. It started in 2019 when Adrian Amos became a traitor and signed with the Green Bay Packers. The Chicago Bears had to fall back to Plan B (or was it always Plan A?) by signing Eddie Jackson’s ex-teammate and friend Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

Clinton-Dix had a solid season with the Bears in 2019, but the team still parted ways as he was only signed to a one-year contract. Clinton-Dix finished the year with 78 combined tackles and two interceptions. He returned one of them for a touchdown. His advanced stats were actually very good with a 59.1% completion percentage and 67.0 quarterback rating while being targeted.

In 2020, the team replaced Clinton-Dix with Tashaun Gipson. Like Clinton-Dix, Gipson had a decent year last season. He was not as good Clinton-Dix was in 2019, but still decent overall. He finished the season with two interceptions (same as Clinton-Dix did in 2019), but never found the end zone. Gipson racked up 66 combined tackles. His advanced stats were not as good though as he allowed 63.6% of the balls thrown in his direction to be completed and a 96.3 quarterback rating.

I would not mind Gipson returning to the Chicago Bears in 2021 as at some point the roulette needs to stop. That said, he isn’t my first choice either.
