The Chicago Bear expectations

So the issue at hand with the Chicago Bears is they went to a couple of Super Bowls and still got the quarterback position wrong both times. Jim McMahon was a great leader and had a fiery personality, but he never produced statistically speaking as a top-five draft pick.

During two separate occasions, the general manager was fired (resigned), and the head coach was removed as well. Drafting a quarterback in the first round will not save jobs unless that quarterback proves to be the best rookie quarterback of our time. Not only does he need to beat average Andy Dalton and Nick Foles, but he would need to be a generational gem.

Some of the best quarterback rookie performances would have to be outdone. Performances like:

  • Justin Herbert six wins, 4,336 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions
  • Kyler Murray five wins, 3,722 passing yards, 544 rushing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns, 12 interceptions
  • Dak Prescott 13 wins, 3,667 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns, four interceptions
  • Robert Griffin  nine wins, 3,200 passing yards, 815 rushing yards, 20 passing touchdowns,  seven rushing touchdowns, five interceptions
  • Cam Newton six wins, 4,051 passing yards, 706 rushing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, 14 rushing touchdowns, 17 interceptions

I say outdone because the Chicago Bears staff cannot argue six wins with anybody, let alone the ownership. They could not claim a quarterback who turns the ball over 17 times on interceptions alone is their future. How would that be progress?

Depending on the play style, the quarterback would need to prove it on paper like Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert and win as Dak Prescott did. If it were that easy, every team would be doing it. The route to saving Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy’s job is winning by any means necessary.

Next. Ryan Pace possible moves in the draft. dark

Whether that’s winning with Andy Dalton this year, a new veteran quarterback next season, a rookie next season, or a second-year pro next season. The way to save their jobs is to win. The quarterback position is going to come down to getting lucky and hitting on the right guy. The way to win is to assemble the best possible team they can from now and into the future. The chips are going to fall one way or another. As a Chicago Bears fan, I hope they fall towards success.
