Chicago Bears Draft: Top-five quarterback rankings

When it is all said and done, not enough of us have bought into the media hype train that is Zach Wilson as the number two quarterback prospect in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

Trevor Lawrence, QB – Clemson

If you have Trevor Lawrence at any spot other than No. 1 overall then you are trying to be too cute. Yes, I am talking to you, Chris Simms. Lawrence is the closest thing to a slam dunk at quarterback since Andrew Luck. The early retirement is doubtful here with Lawrence too.

Justin Fields, QB – Ohio State

I personally had Justin Fields as my second-ranked quarterback prospect and I was glad to see the consensus put him here as well. I am hopeful (even though very unlikely) that somehow the Chicago Bears draft Fields. He will be the franchise quarterback this team has dreamed about for years.

Zach Wilson, QB – BYU

All of the hype here is because Zach Wilson makes himself look similarly to Patrick Mahomes. The thing is, he is not Mahomes and people are too quick to make that comparison. Putting Wilson third-overall makes sense though because his upside is very high. In fact, his upside might be higher than Justin Fields, but his floor is much lower too.

Trey Lance, QB – North Dakota State

Hearing Chicago Bears fans talk about how they want Trey Lance over Justin Fields makes little sense to me. I personally have him as my fifth quarterback prospect, but I lost out here as he is our consensus QB4. When we talk about upside, Lance has plenty. He is very athletic and throws a nice ball, but how can any Bears fan justify wanting another limited-experienced quarterback after complaining about Mitch Trubisky for four years.

Mac Jones, QB – Alabama

Speaking of inexperienced quarterbacks, it appears many feel that Mac Jones should not be ranked as high as he is because he too is inexperienced and also because Alabama is full of NFL-caliber players who essentially help inflate Jones’ numbers. Did anyone say this about Joe Burrow last season? Jones is not as athletic as the other four, but he’s not a statue either. Jones does a great job processing the field and putting the ball in the hands of playmakers.

The Chicago Bears would be lucky to land any of these five quarterbacks in the upcoming draft.
