Chicago Bears Draft: Top-five tight end rankings

The Chicago Bears are not in the market for a tight end early in the 2021 NFL Draft unless one particular tight end becomes available to them (doubtful, but more on that later).

Kyle Pitts, TE – Florida

Outside of Trevor Lawrence, Kyle Pitts might be the biggest slamdunk in the draft. Pitts might be labeled as a tight end, but he is more than that. He will wind up being more like a wide receiver who can line up literally anywhere. Pitts is being compared by many as the next Calvin Johnson and I can see the resemblance. Pitts is the only tight end the Chicago Bears should consider drafting early and worth trading up for too.

Pat Freiremuth, TE – Penn State

At 6’5″ and 250 pounds, Pat Freiremuth is more of a traditional tight end than Kyle Pitts. He should allow whichever team drafts him to create mismatches with his receiving skills, but he will need to continue to build up his strength and develop as an inline blocker.

Tommy Tremble, TE – Notre Dame

Tommy Tremble should be used similarly to Kyle Pitts — he just is not as talented nor as fast. Tremble ran a 4.59 40-yard dash. He is athletic and a solid receiver. He has yet to live up to his potential though. He did not even score a single touchdown in 2020. Hopefully, Tremble is able to transition into the NFL, but he is not likely to be drafted within the first two rounds.

Brevin Jordan, TE – Miami

I remember the last time a Miami tight end was drafted by the Chicago Bears. Greg Olsen was one of my favorite players the Bears have drafted in my lifetime, but after a horrible trade, he’s more well-known as a Panther. Brevin Jordan is not Olsen, but he could actually be better. Jordan has the potential to be a breakout tight end statistically. He has improved every season at Miami and finished 2020 with over 500 yards and seven touchdowns.

Hunter Long, TE – Boston College

I personally have not done enough film study on the tight end position outside of the top four. Hunter Long made our consensus fifth-ranked tight end, but I had to look into him more prior to writing this piece. Long is 6’5″ and over 250 pounds. He is not the fastest with a 4.65 40-time. However, he does seem to have decent hands. Long projects as a backup tight end for me.
