5 Chicago Bears who should be Hall of Famers before Julian Edelman
By Cody Young
The Chicago Bears are one of the most storied franchises in the entire NFL. Their history goes all the way back to the league’s inception in 1920. Being the oldest team in the NFL the Bears certainly have their fair share of Hall-of-Famers throughout their history.
In fact, they have the most players in the Hall with 26 total. To be fair, a good amount of these guys are from the very early days of the NFL with some sprinkles of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Their most recent inductee, Brian Urlacher is the only player from this century who has made it in so far.
However, the recent debate about Julian Edelman deserving the Hall of Fame or not sparked an internal conversation about former Chicago Bears who deserve the Hall of Fame more than Julian Edelman. We will be taking a look at some guys who I feel deserve some more HOF consideration. With a mix of some older and more recent players in this list. So let’ go ahead and start with our first entry.
Lance Briggs is one of the many great linebackers in Chicago Bears history
Player #1: Lance Briggs
Lance Briggs has gotten the short end of the stick several times already. Despite being an outstanding player Brian Urlacher always got all of the shine throughout the 2000s. Due to the great history, Chicago has at the position, Briggs will also not have his number retired unless the team changes their mind on the matter.
To top it off I think Briggs’ chances of being inducted into the Hall are pretty slim. Briggs has been on the ballot the last two years but has failed to make it very far. He should continue to be on the ballot for many more years but may never make it in. He is definitely more deserving than Julian Edelman though. Briggs was a seven-time Pro-Bowler and has even received an endorsement from Brian Urlacher in the past. Julian Edelman does not have one single Pro Bowl.
