Chicago Bears: Round 5, Pick No. 174 (via BUF)

The Bears aren’t done trading with the AFC East. After using their fifth-round pick, the team gets back into the fifth by sending two 2021 sixth-round picks to the Buffalo Bills.

With this selection, the Bears draft the first and only defensive prospect in this mock draft. Olaijah Griffin joins a cornerback room that has plenty of opportunities to earn playing time under new defensive coordinator Sean Desai.

According to PFF, Griffin allowed a completion rate of 42% in man coverage over the past two years. He’s got smooth movement and can stay in phase on wide receiver routes.

Two surgeries in 2018 and a history of back spasms in 2019 are the main reasons why Griffin’s draft stock isn’t great. That being said, his length and athleticism have seen him make plays before. He has a really good shot to contribute to this Bears’ defense and provide for the special teams.

Chicago Bears: Round 6, Pick No. 211

Rounding up the 2021 Draft class is another potential replacement for Jimmy Graham should the Bears release him. Grey fits the mold of a receiving tight end that can help the Bears scheme more 12-man formations.

His blocking and use in the run game weren’t very good at Duke, so the Bears would need to utilize him more in the passing game. It’s another key part of what Matt Nagy is looking for in his offense, and would allow Cole Kmet to focus more on chunk plays and opening up lanes on run formations.

Grey will have to prove his value on special teams as well, but if he is able to do so, he’s an athletic prospect for the Bears with some upside based on his route running and speed off the line.
