When I did this last year, I was sure that the Chicago Bears would take an offensive lineman before round seven. However, after a 2020 offseason that neglected the offensive line, the Chicago Bears seem more likely to address the area this offseason.
Germain Ifedi only started at right tackle out of desperation last season and played well against teams like the Jaguars and Texans. In signing Elijah Wilkinson they still do not have an answer at RT. Beyond that, the Bears have to start thinking about life after Charles Leno after this season.
Add it all together and the Chicago Bears should be looking to draft a tackle at some point. Using Grinding the Mocks, we will see who would be on the board for the Chicago Bears at their picks, then identify the best fits.
Round 1: Teven Jenkins, Oklahoma State
Other Options: Liam Eichenberg, Jaylen Mayfield, Alex Leatherwood, Samuel Cosmi
According to GTM, Christian Darrisaw, Rashawn Slater, and Penei Sewell will be gone. That leaves the name above. The rest are expected to fall to pick 52 or later. Of them all, Teven Jenkins is the clear best fit. His right tackle experience lets him jump right into being a Bobby Massie replacement.
Beyond that, he is the best option of the available lineman. Eichenberg has questionable length and will be best as a guard in the NFL. Mayfield is slow and will be best as a guard. Many see Leatherwood kicking inside, but he could fit, but Cosmi has a bit too much projection and is just an athlete at this point.
Jenkins is experienced, has great tape, adequate size and length and he tested like a great athlete. If he falls to 20, he has to be on the Bears.
