Chicago Bears offensive line prospects
The Chicago Bear’s focus should be on the offensive line. I think after the Super Bowl and the Chicago Bears’ season, once they found a solid combination of effective players, they showed that.
Kendrick Green as a center is more of a Tevin Jenkins-styled player than Drew Dalman. While Green doesn’t possess the skillset used in a power gap blocking scheme, he finishes blocks with power and his feet very well.
Green scored an 88.6 in his PFF run-blocking grade, a 75.2 pass-blocking grade, and an outstanding 93.7 grade with his zone blocking. I apologize for mainly using the PFF grades for this coverage. What I understand on film for an offensive lineman isn’t my specialty.
I know an excellent blocker when I see one, but I need to know schematically who is better at what. That is where Pro Football Focus comes into play. Green is compared to Netane Muti, who was heavily projected to be drafted by the Chicago Bears last season.
Green, like Muti, is very athletic for a big man. Much like Dalman, Green is also an intelligent center that understands defensive fronts. The Chicago Bears have a fair amount of guards that can play center, so why not take a chance on one of the two players to play either guard or center and complete the process of the build on the interior.
If the Chicago Bears are not feeling another center/guard hybrid, they could look at Sadarius Hutcherson of South Carolina. Hutcherson is a true guard that plays a lot like Kendrick Green and Drew Dalman.
While Hutcherson is not as technically efficient as the other two, he has the same size and ability. A young version of Kyle Long athletically, Hutcherson needs to work on technique to thrive at the next level. Juan Castillo is known for pounding the basics into a player. If there is a guy that seemingly only needs to work on that to succeed in the NFL at guard, Hutcherson is that player. I missed the measurements of these players, so here you go:
- Sadarius Hutcherson: 6’4″ and 320 pounds
- Kendrick Green: 6’4″ and 315 pounds
- Drew Dalman: 6’3″ and 300 pounds
